''Roots and the Future: Environmental Sustainability through Archaeobotany'' - First Steps into Archaeobotany and Intercultural Learning

“Roots and the Future: Environmental Sustainability through Archaeobotany” (Project No: 2025-1-IS01-KA152-YOU-000297094) is an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange hosted by the Green Behavior Youth Organization in Selfoss, Iceland, from 18 to 24 August 2025. The project brings together young people from Croatia, Georgia, Iceland, Türkiye, Ukraine represented respectively by the Green Behavior Youth Organization.

Interactive icebreakers and talent-sharing activities encouraged participants to discover one another’s strengths, reflect on previous learning experiences, and appreciate the value of documenting competences through Youthpass. By exchanging skills and personal stories, the group established an atmosphere of trust and mutual support that will sustain the learning journey ahead.

Exploratory orientation tasks combined teamwork with practical problem-solving. Simulations inspired by archaeology and everyday situations familiarized participants with the local environment while fostering cooperation, communication, and confidence in navigating new surroundings.

Cultural workshops and discussions highlighted the opportunities offered by Erasmus+ and demonstrated how intercultural dialogue enriches personal growth. Participants shared symbols of their heritage, introduced traditional practices, and reflected on the transformative impact of international mobility experiences.

Creative dissemination began with the collaborative design of project posters and information materials. Through artistic expression, participants visualized the project’s goals and prepared resources that will support future outreach activities and engagement with local communities.

The experience concluded with collective reflection and an inspiring cultural fair. Recording memorable moments on a shared dream board promoted self-awareness and constructive feedback, while performances, traditional crafts, music, and cuisine celebrated the diversity of the partnership and strengthened the bonds among participants.

Hold Your Breath: Air Pollution - Celebrating Learning and Future Cooperation 🎉

The final day of the Erasmus+ KA153 Mobility of Youth Workers project "Hold Your Breath: Air Pollution" (Project No. 2025-1-IT03-KA153-YOU-000299023) marked the successful conclusion of an inspiring week in Milan, Italy. Coordinated by Ecological Connection Community, the project brought together youth workers from Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Türkiye, with Green Behavior Youth Organization proudly contributing to this international learning experience. The closing activities celebrated the knowledge gained, partnerships established, and the commitment of participants to continue promoting environmental sustainability.

The programme included the final evaluation sessions, where participants reflected on their personal learning journeys, shared feedback on the mobility experience, and discussed recommendations for future Erasmus+ projects. Each participant completed their Youthpass Certificate, recognising the competences, knowledge, and skills they had developed throughout the project. 📖

Participants also enjoyed a cultural visit around Milan, discovering the city's historical landmarks while strengthening intercultural friendships built during the mobility. This experience highlighted the importance of cultural exchange within Erasmus+, demonstrating how environmental cooperation and intercultural dialogue complement one another in creating active European citizenship.

As the project came to an end, participants returned home equipped with stronger leadership skills, greater environmental awareness, enhanced communication competences, and practical action plans to address air pollution within their own communities. The partnerships established during "Hold Your Breath: Air Pollution" will continue beyond the project, supporting future international cooperation and empowering youth workers to inspire sustainable change across Europe. 🤝

Our Experience in Hungary: “For the Better: Sustainability” Youth Exchange

Between 18 and 25 May 2025, Green Behavior Youth Organization took part in an inspiring Erasmus+ youth exchange titled “For the Better: Sustainability,” hosted in Budapest, Hungary. The project gathered 48 young participants and 6 organizations from Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Portugal, Romania, Türkiye, all sharing one mission — to learn, share, and act for a greener and more sustainable world.

Why This Project Mattered

As an organization dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and green lifestyles among youth in Iceland, participating in this project perfectly aligned with our values.

The project aimed to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability, responsible consumption, and protection of natural resources. It also encouraged young people to take action against climate change and to adopt eco-friendly habits in their everyday lives.

Beyond its environmental focus, the project promoted intercultural understanding, collaboration, and inclusion, providing a unique opportunity for participants to connect and learn from each other’s cultures and perspectives.

The week in Budapest was filled with interactive workshops, creative sessions, and cultural exchanges.

Every participant left Budapest with new ideas, motivation, and awareness.

Our Icelandic team members shared that the experience made them more conscious of how individual actions contribute to global change. They also improved their leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, while gaining a stronger sense of European identity and solidarity.

As an organization, Green Behavior Youth Organization gained valuable experience in international collaboration and environmental education. The project helped us strengthen our network with European partners and inspired us to launch new local initiatives focused on youth-led sustainability projects in Iceland.
