From Awareness to Impact: Engaging Communities for Climate Action

The Erasmus+ Mobility of Youth Workers project “Climate Guardians: Youth Workers for a Cleaner Tomorrow” (Project No. 2024-1-LT02-KA153-YOU-000205187) was held in Vilnius, Lithuania, from 6 to 12 October 2024. Hosted by Delta Environmental Association VšĮ with the participation of the Green Behavior Youth Organization, the project gathered youth workers from Lithuania, Poland, Iceland, Türkiye, and Hungary to strengthen their competences in environmental education, civic engagement, and international cooperation.

A stakeholder visit to the Baltic Environmental Forum enabled participants to witness first-hand how civil society organizations address climate challenges. Through presentations, dialogue, and direct interaction with environmental professionals, they gained practical insights into effective initiatives, reinforced their understanding of volunteerism, and enhanced their communication and active citizenship skills.

The project’s public dissemination activities transformed learning into action. Participants exhibited their artistic works on climate change, engaged local residents through quizzes and interactive games, and encouraged sustainable habits with eco-friendly incentives. These experiences fostered confidence in public outreach while demonstrating the power of creativity and dialogue in raising environmental awareness.

Planning for long-term impact was at the heart of the Sustainability Strategy Summit. Working collaboratively, participants designed concrete dissemination and follow-up actions to extend the project’s outcomes beyond the mobility itself. The process strengthened their abilities in strategic thinking, teamwork, and the development of sustainable community initiatives.

Reflective evaluation sessions consolidated the knowledge and competences acquired throughout the experience, encouraging both critical self-assessment and collective learning. The intercultural dimension of the mobility was further enriched by the Icelandic Cultural Night, which celebrated national traditions and deepened the bonds among participants committed to a greener future.
